Flowers in Fishes is an original fish watercolor painting that brings together a school of flowing, organic fish, each with a flower at its center, right where its heart would be. The flowers are the soul of this piece: they bloom as a symbol of life, tenderness and connection with nature.
I painted this artwork while living by the sea in Guanacaste, and that closeness to the ocean shaped its essence. To me, the fish are a reflection of us as human beings: we travel together, cross paths, face one another, and each of us carries our own flower within. That is where the deep connection between the figures and the water around them comes from.
I kept the white background clean and luminous, letting the magentas, violets, blues, greens and yellows breathe and stand out. Each fish is outlined with zigzag and lace-like lines, and gold details, spirals, leaves and a dragonfly hovering between them add texture and movement.
This is a piece for anyone seeking meaningful original watercolor art: a reminder that the human and the natural meet in the simplest things. It fits beautifully in a living room, bedroom, studio or creative space, and makes a special gift for people who love flowers, the sea and handmade art.
