There Are Many Flowers in the Sea II is the second interpretation of a concept that originated with There Are Many Fish in the Sea, a previous painting that now resides in a private collection. In this new work, Virginia Naranjo expands the narrative to explore femininity, community, and the interconnected nature of human relationships through the language of the ocean.
The flowers symbolize women sharing the same symbolic sea—diverse, resilient, and beautiful beings who support one another as they navigate life’s currents. The fish represent masculinity: the men and boys who swim alongside them, contributing companionship, strength, and mutual growth. Rather than presenting opposing forces, the work celebrates collaboration, balance, and the coexistence of complementary energies.
Inspired by the complexity of marine ecosystems, Naranjo creates a visual metaphor for human society, where every individual contributes to a larger network of care, connection, and transformation. Vibrant blues, turquoise waters, organic patterns, and flourishing forms merge into a joyful composition that invites viewers to reflect on the power of community and shared growth.
Rooted in the artist’s ongoing exploration of nature, environmental awareness, and emotional storytelling, There Are Many Flowers in the Sea II transforms the ocean into a poetic space where humanity can thrive together. The work speaks to solidarity, empathy, and the beauty that emerges when we support one another beneath the surface of everyday life.
